Students participated in a design challenge after Mike Artell's author visit. They had to design something that could solve the main character's problem in Mike Artell's book called Petite Rogue. This was a chance for students to use their creativity to collaborate and problem solve. Students also created stopmotion videos to apply some of the cartooning tips from his book called Funny Cartooning for Kids.

Prairie View students in third and fourth grades were excited to participate in an author visit with Mike Artell. He is an author, illustrator, and cartoonist from Louisiana. He shared with kids about what it's like to be an author and illustrator and focused on the importance of using your creativity. He talked about not giving up and taught them some tips for cartooning. Students had the opportunity to apply some of his tips for drawing stick figures, bubble letters and faces.
Students got to travel to different places using the VR goggles from the Grant Wood AEA. The field trips connected to students' learning in science and social studies. Some trips we went on included The Great Depression, Borneo Rain Forest for Plant and Animal Adaptations, and the Underwater Excursion to look at different structures of life.
Thanks to everyone who supported our book fair and to those who volunteered to help! It was so fun to see everyone excited about books. Happy reading!
