Exciting news! The AEA has purchased a new online resource for View students. It is called PebbleGo and has a lot of information on a variety of topics, written in a kid friendly way. I will be sending login information home soon but if you would like your child's login information before that, just let me know! It is so exciting to be starting a new school year and I'm looking forward to seeing all the smiling faces in the library soon! Students will get to come to the library for a lesson and checkout once a week. Please read with your child at home and send the books back within two weeks. If you have a question or need help with something, please just ask. We are here to help and can't wait to see how much all the students learn this year! Thanks! Students chose stations to go to and completed a challenge at each station. The stations focused on problem solving, creativity, coding and collaboration. Some of the stations included Spheros, BeeBots, Makey Makey Inventor kits, brick mazes and green screens.
The 4th grades particpated in a BeeBot battle after being introduced to some Choose Your Own Adventure books. One group of students had to program the BeeBot that represented Little Red Riding Hood and the other group had to program their BeeBot as if they were the Big Bad Wolf. This lessons connects literacy to coding, technology skills, and problem solving.
A huge THANK YOU to the Prairie View PTO for purchasing books for all of our students to take home and keep. Students selected a book before Winter Break so that they would all have something special to read. Thanks for all you do for View!
Third and fourth graders worked on block coding by using a Sphero robot to travel through the path of our story. Students were introduced to how the Sphero works and how to use block coding in the Sphero Edu app. We coded the Sphero to get through maze, change lights, and add sounds and words. This activity went along with a story we read and also connected to the Hour of Code activities this month.
Teachers have painted pictures to help decorate the library and show off some of their favorite characters. This has helped build excitement about reading and also promoted a love of reading to our students. Mrs. Crist unveiled her painting of Dragons Loves Tacos for her class last week and the kids absolutely love it! Thanks Mrs. Crist!
